Mimosa Moments

Hello everyone!  Hope your weeks all went well!

I don't know about you, but by the time Friday rolls around, I am in desperate need for a cocktail (or two...).  And, in case you couldn't tell by the name of my blog, I love champagne and yummy drinks.  I love experimenting with cocktail mixing.  Seriously if I wasn't such an old person person who loves sleep (I can not stay up late.  I need to be in bed by, like, 11.  So sad.) I would probably be a bartender.  So I'm just going to have to share all my experiments with you lovely people instead (oh darn... :D)

For special occasions (pretty much for any occasion I can actually), I always turn to champagne.  There's something just so classy and special about champagne.  And it just so happens to be the week of my boyfriend's birthday (what a coincidence!)  So for my first Mimosa Moments, I will be sharing a classic champagne recipe- the champagne cocktail.

I've been making these for a couple years now.  They are delicious.  I would recommend them for a birthday, girls night, or even dinner party.  The sugar and bitters change the flavors a bit so experiment with these if you don't know your champagne or tastes that well.  Personally, I prefer these babies with an extra- dry or semi-dry champagne, depending on my mood (sweet-ish, or sweet).  I prefer my Brut champagne by itself, but it makes perfectly good champagne cocktails if that's your thang (super dry champagne is meant to be on its own if you really must know aka my professional champagne taster opinion).  If you don't like champagne or have never had bitters before, a semi-dry might do the trick because it cuts the bitters taste.  However, it can be a lot sweeter because of the sugar (both in the champagne and the actual sugar).    I would definitely suggest extra-dry if this is your first time with the cocktail.  If that's not sweet enough, try the semi-dry.

The Supplies:

Items for champagne cocktails
Champagne, Aromatic Bitters, Sugar Cubes, and Fancy Glass
First things first:

a little sip!
A little sip!
I've never had this type of champagne before, so of course I had to try it without all the add ins.  In case you can't tell from the above picture, it's Champagne Victoire Brut Prestige.  Got it at TotalWine for $34.99.  It's a dry, fruit flavored champagne, and it is yummo.  I would highly recommend.

Anyway, now to the cocktail mixing!

Sugar cube and bitters
Sugar cube + Bitters

Put a sugar cube in your glass and add about 1 or 2 shakes of bitters.  In the above picture, I added about 3 or 4 shakes because I love the taste, but if you've never had it before, I would recommend less- it's definitely not for everyone!

the finished product
Pure deliciousness
Pour in your champagne.  Watch the sugar cube dissolve and make your bubbly even more bubblicious.  Then drink and let the tension of the week melt away!

Hope you all have a great weekend!  Always remember to be responsible with your fab cocktails, because being that guy/girl= never cool.

Talk to ya soon!

~K
