Mimosa Moments

Hello everyone!  So I'm totally late on my Mimosa Moments post for the week, but yesterday I had some questionable bbq and I got sick.  So I didn't make any mimosas this week :O  BUT.....I do have a mimosa review.  Which is basically almost as good.

Alright so there's this awesome cafe near where I live: Charlie's.  Check out their website, and if you're in the Norfolk area and haven't been I would highly recommend.  One of my favorite things to get (a reason I can't go there too often) is their Irish Omelette, which is cheese, onions and corned beef hash.  If you don't like it, you are for real missing out.  But I'm not here to review their (fabulous) foods.  I'm here to review this baby:

Oh yes my friends.  This is a real thing.
That mammoth beast is Charlie's world famous HALF GALLON MIMOSA.  A drink so great, it needed to be written in all caps.  Just to give you a little perspective here, this is my HALF GALLON MIMOSA next to a regular mason jar:

How exciting is that?

So this was basically like the best thing ever this morning.  I've gotten their regular mimosas before, but I've never gotten a mimosa (or drink in general) this big.  So I decided to try it.  You know....for science ;)

Half Gallon Mimosa + Kendyl= a Happy Lady
Let me tell you:  Be Prepared.  It took me a while to finish that thing.  Like all of breakfast + 30 min.  But it was everything you would expect a classic mimosa to be:  the perfect mix between champagne and O.J. Crisp, delicious, and yes, the perfect compliment to my corned beef hash and eggs (hate on me but I will continue to eat the artery hardening deliciousness).

While I didn't make this mimosa, I have to say it's a must try.  Any of their mimosas (not just the HALF GALLON one) are most delicious.  But if you're brave/have a designated driver/can handle that shit then HALF GALLON away.  Just for real, expect to pee a lot.  That's a lot of liquid, hombre.

So next week will be on track with a new recipe, but I figured I would spread the gospel of Charlie's Cafe and their awesome libations.  Tomorrow's Sunday- go if you're in the area and treat yourself to a fabulous beverage.

Wonderful Wednesday: Stop! Humor Time!

Hello all!  So glad it's Wednesday- only 2 more days until the weekend!  I'm super exhausted.  And I just got a massage.  So I'm tired...but happy.  Anywho, before I get onto this week's DanceMoms bonanza before I crash out, here are some wonderful things I'm lovin this week.  And by wonderful, I mean hilarious, because that's the kind a mood I'm in.  So there.  :P

Love this show
lol so true! (source)

What It's Like To Be Single As Told By Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, And Rebel Wilson... The best post ever!
This super funny gif-gasm of what it's like to be single as told by J-Lawrance, Emma Stone, and Rebel Wilson.  I seriously just sat here and lol'd hardcore.
Although I have a severe issue with discussing bodily functions cause they're icky, I feel this way on a daily basis.  #gradschoolprobs

Kudos on the use of the smexy Eric from TB.  But true story bro (source)

Whisky is good for you! Gotta live Jesse too!
Oh Jesse...you're the best.  I remember this episode too. (source)

Ha!
This very true statement by Mr. Jack Black.

This cracked.com article about the 6 stupidest plots of supposedly smart movie villains.  I love cracked, and I love pretty much every single movie article they've written.  So funny.

Alright, finally we are moving from the humorous to the WTF part of Wonderful Wednesday.  I saw this video on Pinterest last night and the things these little Russian girls are doing freak me out.  I thought "normal" (i.e. one person) gymnastics floor routines were hard!  Watch this and wonder what planet these chicks are from.  Especially that little monkey girl.

Seriously, this is simultaneously cool and terrifying.  (source).  I want to know how much that little monkey child weighs!

Anyway, I'm off to relax with some peaches and DanceMoms.  What are your favorite things to lol at?  Comment below and tell me!  Are you as snarky as I am ;)?

Magpie Monday

Hello hello hello!  Hope everyone's Monday is good.  I'm totally taking a break from my readings to write this post.  Homework + Monday is not an equation I understand right now.  It's incomprehensible.  Like geometry, or calculus.

But here are some shiny things to distract you if you're having the same problem I am!

This NARS palette that would make for some shmexy smokey eyes.

Valley Run traditional kitchen
This girl, with her cute hair and sparkly dress.  She's so adorable!  You go girl.

Clear/ multi colored pave bead bracelet
This bracelet from The Way We Are, which I actually own!  So fun.
Metallic woven belt
This belt that has the perfect subtle sparkle for a work outfit

This aqua clutch that has a studded edge.  So awesome for spring and summer (wine) festivals!

Color mix statement necklace
This perfectly perfect Easter-tastic necklace of justice (PS this is the for real name of this necklace.  J.Crew is mistaken on their website ;) )

Ciaté - Sequined Manicure Kit™
This exciting sequined manicure kit from Sephora.  Although for reals no work would get done if I had sparkly nails.

This fab quote that leads perfectly to my next and last pic today..

Blair Waldorf in all her sparkly glory.  She is the best.  This may or may not be the only redeeming quality of season 6.

Happy Monday!

Review: KlutchClub Box 2

Hey guys!  Hope your Sunday is as lazy and relaxing as mine.  Yesterday I went to an awesome yoga workshop full of shoulder openers (it was called yoga for hunchbacks- all about opening the shoulders since we hunch over our technology all day everyday) so today I am pleasantly sore and ready to do nothing.  I already finished my homework for the week too so I'm on the couch while the babes does some stuff on his computer, watching some netflix and writing this blogpost (ironic after my workshop I know).

But before I unplug, I wanted to share the goodies I got from KlutchClub this month.  Last month's box was pretty nifty (full post here).  FYI: Last month's box as the Best Of Box, while this box was just the general women's box of the month.  Price difference: This month was $18, while last month was $25.  I got a bit more last month, which is to be expected.

This month's theme was "Aging and Longevity".

All the Goodies!

Here are the foodbased goodies I got:

Davidson's Organic Tea, Skinny Pop Popcorn, CocoaVia Supplements, Green & Black Organic  Chocolate, and Corazona's Oatmeal Squares

Alright so, chocolate and tea is pretty much a no brainer.  I got Sun, Moon, and Stars, Tropical Green, and Red, Green and White tea and Dark 70% Chocolate.  Looks like I found my guilty pleasures of the week!  The SkinnyPop Popcorn is only 100 cals for the whole bag, and has no trans fat or cholesterol.  Another (non-so-guilty) pleasure!  These Corazona's Blueberry Oatmeal Squares look nomtastic, but as they aren't g-free, I'll probs give them to someone else.  Finally, I'm pretty stoked about these CocoaVia supplements.  They have 250mg of cocoa flavanols, and apparently help support healthy blood circulation according to the box.  Honestly, they could do nothing- I'm just excited to have an add-in to my morning Greek yogurt! ;)

The beauty products:

Crystal Body Deodorant Stick, Lacote USA Guam Mud Cellulite Treatment, and Juice Beauty Hydrating Mist+20% off juicebeauty.com

Alright so, this is some pretty exciting stuffs right here.  I've never tried these crystal body deodorant sticks, so I have no frame of reference, but hey, I'll try anything once.  Hypoallergenic+paraben free sounds pretty legit.  This Guam cellulite treatment is pretty nifty since bathing suit season is just around the corner.  You apparently rub this on the area you want to get rid of cellulite, then wrap it in plastic wrap and leave it on for 45 min.  Since I don't have to pay a bajillion and one dollars to do this at a spa, I may try it out.  Finally, this hydrating mist is like making my LIFE.  I have incredibly dry skin, so I'm super duper excited to see if this calms my skin down (I have wicked eczema that acts up on the side of my nose and under my chin. I don't think this will cure it, but I'm hoping that it will it down a little ittybitty bit).  The 20% off is pretty fantastic if I like it!

The randoms:

Giftcard to Lumosity.com, and one month membership to alignedsigns.com
Lumosity.com is an online brain training program that supposedly improves cognitive abilities.  Alignedsigns.com uses Western Astrology, Chinese Zodiac, and the Myers-Briggs test to build self awareness and relationships.  I'm not sure if I'll use either of these things but they're nice to have in case I get bored :)

All in all, a good box.  I will be continuing my subscription to see what next month's box has to offer!  So far I have no complaints on this sub-box.

What's your favorite sub-box?  Do you subscribe to KlutchClub?  What's your opinion?  Comment below!

Enjoy your lazy day!

Mimosa Moments

Whatup guys!

While I will not be imbibing too much tonight (I have a pretty nasty headache), I figured I could still experiment with my new cocktail of the week.  Le boyfriend is the main taste-tester, and I had a sip of each version.  You know, for science ;)

Anyway, this week's amazing cocktail (seriously I'm a flippin genius) is a Mojito Mimosa.  That's right, you heard me.  Lime juice + mint + light rum + champagne???  Madness you say!  No, I respond!  Deliciousness!

Now for those of you who like Mojitos, you know that it's a mix of limes, mint, sugar, and rum.  I decided that, since I was planning on using a sweet champagne (I got Moscoto and an Extra Dry just for kicks) I'd cut the sugar all together and let the champagne add the sweetness.

The Supplies:

Mint (organic for you fancy pants), limes, a muddler, Bacardi, Extra Dry and Moscato
PS.. you need real limes.  None of this awkward lime juice from concentrate nonsense.  If you're questioning the validity of this statement, this cocktail is not for you.  Also, you can't get the premade mojito mixes because they already have cane sugar added.  I think the sweetness would be too cray.  But if that's your thing (or you're lazy- no judgment, we've all been there) I totes get it.

Also, we gotta have a moment about the muddler.  I suppose you could use a fork in a pinch, but a) you look like you know what you're doing with one (very schmancy), b) you can pretend to be a real bartender for like a millisecond, and c) you can get one for cheapcheapcheap.  Suriously.  I got this one for under 3 bucks.  Plus it's very therapeutic to mash shit up.  Very cathartic and satisfying.

Anyway, so here's the deets.

1)  Cut a lime in half and then cut each half into wedges.  I used about three mini-wedges.  Throw them wedges into a pretty sturdy glass like you mean business.  Like you're the Godfather of cocktails.  Then, rip up about 2-3 mint leaves (depending on your mint tolerance) and throw them in there too.

2) Fun part!  Muddle the shit out of those limes and mint leaves.  Don't be shy.  Ya gotta get them juices flowing from the limes.  There should be some lime juice all over.  Again, channel the Godfather.  Or Quentin Tarintino.  Like dis:

Those limes didn't stand a chance
3) Fill that cup up with ice.  Like at least half way.  My champagne and rum were both chilled but it's more mojito like, and it stops the mint leaves and lime wedges from floating around in your business.  I like pretty big chunks of both in my mojitos so it's very helpful to have the ice in there.

4) Pour in your rums over the ice.  I used about a shot and a half.  Then fill the rest up with your champagne.

Oh YES.
5) I personally like to add a little extra squeeze of lime juice in there.  Totally optional but highly recommended.

The Verdict:

The Moscoto was the winner here.  The extra dry was really just to try something new.  When my boyfriend tasted the extra dry he said it was borderline gin-dry (he hates gin and thinks it tastes like grass).  However, the Moscoto's sweetness added in what the sugar that I took out would have.  It's an interesting take on one of my favorite cocktails.  Perfect for spring and summer that's coming up!

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to take some more excedrin, lay down, and have a perfectly boring Friday evening with my baby and the cat.

Comment below on your opinions of my cocktail.  Something you're interested in?  Any crazy combos you want me to try next week?  Let me know!

Happy Friday!

Wonderful Wednesday

Hey brotato chips!  Hope your hump day is going well.  Here's some of my favorite wonderful things of the week!

Business man Li Shang
This made me lol.  I sang it in my head.  Oh Mulan!

only B can do rain so perfectly
This fabulous picture of the one and only Blair Waldorf
A couple kept coming home to find water around their pool. Thinking the neighbours were sneaking in to use the pool whenever they went out, they set up a hidden camera. This is what they found out.
This super sweet video that my computer decided it didn't want to put up here.  This is the link.  Apparently, this family couldn't figure out why there was water around their pool every time they came home so they set up a hidden camera.  So adorable.

This would be cute in the bathroom!
This cute sign that I want for my bathroom

Vintage Circus Elephant Pillow on yellow and cream chevron print
This super random yet fabulous, chevron circus elephant pillow.  Oh etsy...what you do to my bank account.

Piggies don't eat roast beef, either!
This kid's face says it all

Hands off My Fish (EXPLICIT)
This shirt makes me laugh.  Seriously.  I lol'd for a good 3 minutes.  I looked at my clock.

And Finally....The lovely sweater jacket I got from StitchFix yesterday.  I just had to break it in today at work.

Please excuse my face.  I was trying really hard to get the entire outfit in the photo for my instagram.  That's my "I'm concentrating really effing hard" face.  But how FAB is this jacket?  With my blue tights, I say I look supa shanazzy.
There ya have it.  Wonderful Wednesday.  What are your favorites for today?

Stay tuned for my re-review (I'll explain later) of one of my favorite T.V. shows tomorrow.  Is the anticipation killing you?  Good.  Cause that means you'll come back ;)

Stitch Fix Review

Hello lovebugs!  I hope this lovely Tuesday is treating you well.  Seriously, it's like Virginia actually decided that it would have semi-decent weather for one afternoon (this morning was gross and rainy).  Tomorrow it's supposed to be 50 again, but right now I have the windows of the living room open to pretend it's springtime for like .5 seconds.  And I'm not the only one enjoying the weather...

Ginger was sketching on a bird but decided to take a break for a photo op.
Anyway, I wanted to do my StitchFix review as I got the box on Friday.  This is my second ever StitchFix but my first ever post about one, and I have to say, I love it.  For those of you not in the know, StitchFix is a sub box that can be scheduled at any time (monthly, bimonthly, whatever).  You fill out this pretty intense style questionnaire about likes, dislikes, sizes, etc. and they send you 5 items in every box- 4 clothing pieces, 1 accessory.  You can pick different price points for each type of clothing/accessory (skirts, dresses, jackets/sweaters, jewelry, etc.).  Currently, my clothing price points are $50-100 and my jewelry is under $50.  You can change any time you want.  Then you keep what you want and send the rest back in a prepaid bag.  You get charged $20 for shipping, but that's applied to anything you order in the box.  Also, if you keep all 5 items, you get a 25% discount.  And they give you little cards with outfit ideas for each piece!  So much fun, especially since I'm trying to push my fashion envelope this year and try new things!   You should totes try it.  Here's my referral link if you want to try- if you use this link to sign up, I would get $25 in credit for Stitchfix!  But even if you don't use it you should check it out cause it is a fab way to get some cool stuffs!

http://stitchfix.com/sign_up?referrer_id=3011046

On to this month's haul and my review of each piece:

Addorable sweater jacket + sketch ass toes
This is the Luna Lurex Sweater Jacket by RD Style.  Now this was love at first sight- it's totes mggotes my style and has just the perfect amount of shine on it, with the chain on around the edges and the little faux pockets.  Plus it has a Blair Waldorf vibe (yes I like Gossip Girl.  No I don't care your opinion on it.  Unless you agree it's the best show ever until like halfway through season 4.  Then I'd love to hear your opinion ;) ).  BUT it's pretty expensive and had a bit of a snag on the sleeve.  So I put it in my maybe pile.  Thankfully, I thought about it long and hard (and figured out what to pair it with and decided it was basically the love of my life) AND my mom said she could fix the sleeve, so this BW fabulousness is stayin with momma!

Again with the toes...I gotta get my shit together.

Ready for my closeup Mr. DeMille
This lovely sheer top with the most fab tulip print is by Collective Concepts.  StitchFix very nicely threw in a layering cami for free (if I keep the top.  Which I'm totally doing).  Elbow length sleeves, a nice little v-neck, and the breezy quality that makes me want to go skip around in some meadow of flowers (which I would never actually do because I'm outdoorsy in the sense that I get drunk on patios if ya catch my drift) made this a no brainer.  And as the very helpful outfit idea card pointed out, this can be paired with jeans or a pencil skirt making it a versatile work to play piece.  Winning.

No toes this time...I got smart.
This lovely cobalt number by Peppermint featured a hi-lo hem and a peter pan collar.  I so badly wanted to love this dress.  Unfortunately, my long legs did not agree- my Brittany was practically popping out that's how short it was in front!  Like one sneeze and the surprise is out.  Sometimes I can get away with such dresses as tops (how us tall girls get creative) but when I tried it on, it looked off and not cute.  So back it goes.  So sad.  But I would never wear it so no need to spend the monies.

Chambray skirt by Pennystock
I hate this skirt, I'm not even going to lie to you.  I couldn't even come up with a witty caption, that's how much I disliked this skirt.  It took me back to junior high.  Ugh.  It was a very lightweight denim and just not my style at all.  God all I need is some tragic kneehighs and a badly fitting sweater and I could be a member of the babysitter club (not hating on them but for real- didja see the movie??).  Definitely a no way Jose.

Dangly Betty Carre Earrings+ awkward alien hands
These earrings were my accessory du jour.  While they are indeed shiny, all I felt was a "meh" when I saw them.  They're cute, but nothing special.  Plus I'm more of a chunky studs kinda gal.  So these are going back as well.

All in all, 2 loves, 1 it's not you it's me, 1 meh, and 1 hatred isn't all that bad.  The total for the two pieces is a little steep, even with the $20 discount, but  I think the Cost Per Wear on these items is pretty low, since I can wear both of these pieces for work or casual times, out and about, or errand running.  If you would like me to break down Cost Per Wear, please let me know!  I'm all about getting a good value out of what I buy- if it's an investment I'll wear a lot, I'll buy it even if it's a bit expensive, but I'm less likely to buy an item that's super cute but I won't wear that much.  And I can rationalize my purchases like nobody's business yo!  Next time I'll try to take better pictures of my clothes- I have a serious learning curve when it comes to photography.  You'll see them in one of my (hopefully soon) outfit posts or if you follow me on Instagram (@magpiesandmimosas).

Have you ever done StitchFix?  What's your favorite necessary item you don't mind spending some extra bucks on?  Comment below!

Stay tuned for tomorrow's Wonderful Wednesday!

Magpie Monday

Hello everyone!  I hope your Monday is going well.  I am currently taking a break from my school reading and writing about sparkly things and watching some Big Bang Theory.  Pretty much the best study break ever, don't you agree? :)  If you don't agree, you have your priorities wrong my friend.

Anywho...the best part of Mondays....the Magpie part!

These fabulous earrings

This necklace that also comes in green and red.   Blue and gold=always a classic.

These fabulous metallic mini-wedges that would go with anything

There are no words to describe this bejeweled Patron bottle.  I would be so happy!

Red Sparkle Pointe Shoes
These sparkly red pointe shoes that make me wish I stuck with ballet.

This brooch that I want to rock really bad.  Cause it's super classy.  And sparkly.  The combo that can't be beat/

And now for the lust worthy items of my list:

I love this Bulgari bracelet and how understated it is..  And I'm a nerd and I love the little coins and such.  Unfortunately, the price is not so understated.  :sigh: One day I'll be a trophy wife super rich person, and be able to afford things like this.

These CLs that I would never wear IRL but want them anyway.  The discount price isn't actually that bad, but I know that they would never get worn.  I'd probably kill myself since I'm so graceful

So there you have it.  This week's Magpie finds.  What kind of stuff is your inner Magpie lusting over?
